Getting started

What does PhylaxNet do?

PhylaxNet runs on a Windows PC in your home or office and watches your network: it finds every device, spots attacks (like someone impersonating your router), warns about risky open ports and devices contacting known malware servers, spots floods and leaked passwords, and lets you pause, block or set after-hours locks for any device. Your dashboard at phylaxnet.com shows the same information from anywhere.

What do I need?

A Windows 10 or 11 PC that stays on and is connected to the network you want to protect (wired is best), and an Npcap install (the app walks you through it on first run). One PC per location is enough.

How do I install it?

Sign in on the website and click Download for Windows, run the installer, and sign in to the app with the same account. Your 14-day trial starts straight away; if someone gave you a license key, enter it under Settings. The setup guide then helps you name your devices.

Does the PC need to stay on?

Yes — PhylaxNet can only watch the network while the PC is on. Turn on Always-on protection in Settings so it keeps running even when nobody is signed in to Windows.

Devices & alerts

A device shows up as "Unknown" — what should I do?

Open Devices, click it, and look at the vendor and name. If it’s yours, click Trust. If you don’t recognise it, Block it and change your WiFi password.

What is an "ARP spoofing" alert?

Something on your network claimed to be your router so it could see or change other devices’ traffic. Don’t sign in to banking or email until it’s resolved; check Devices for anything unfamiliar, block it, and restart your router. Each alert in the app has a “How to fix” button with steps.

What is "Malware contact"?

A device talked to a server that security researchers (abuse.ch, Spamhaus) list as used by malware or criminals. Block the device, run a full antivirus scan on it, and change passwords used on it from another device.

What is Away mode?

Turn it on in Settings when you’re on holiday or the office is closed. Any device that joins while it’s on raises a critical alert, sent to the app, email and your team chat if you set one up.

Why are some device names wrong?

PhylaxNet guesses names from what devices announce about themselves. Click a device and rename it — your name is kept.

Employees & web filter

How do after-hours locks and pausing work?

On the Employees page, assign devices to people, then pause their devices or set an after-hours lock (for example 18:00–08:00). Locked devices can’t reach the internet but stay on your network. At home, the same settings work as bedtimes.

How do I block adult sites, gambling or social media?

Turn on the web filter on the Employees page and tick the categories. Then set your router’s DNS server to this PC’s address (shown in the card). You can also block a category only at certain times, like social media during work hours.

Can people get around the filter?

Someone can use mobile data, a VPN app or encrypted DNS. PhylaxNet 1.8 watches for that: Applications → Filter bypass lists devices dodging the filter, and Block bypass stops most VPN apps and encrypted DNS. The filter is a strong layer, not a guarantee.

New security tools (1.8)

What does Attack Watch do?

It learns what normal traffic looks like for your office, then spots floods aimed at you (SYN floods, UDP amplification, ping floods, or a full and slow internet line) within seconds. It shows the attack live, keeps a record, and tells you what to do. It also warns if an office device starts flooding or scanning others, which is a sign of botnet malware. A flood big enough to fill your line has to be filtered by your internet provider, so the app tells you exactly what to ask them for.

How do the Data Leaks checks work?

Add your own email addresses and business domain on the Data Leaks page and tick the consent box. The app checks them against known breaches (via XposedOrNot) every week and tells you what to do for each one. The password check sends only the first five characters of a scrambled code of the password to Have I Been Pwned, so the password itself never leaves your PC.

Can I see which websites my employees visit?

Yes — Employees → Web activity shows the websites each work device visits, by day, with the most-used first, and lets you block a site in one click. It shows site names only (never pages, searches or passwords), works for devices that use the PhylaxNet web filter, and stays on your office PC. It is off until you confirm you have told your staff in writing; the app gives you a notice to print and sign. Some states, such as New York, Connecticut and Delaware, require that notice by law.

What is the Email Security page?

It checks your business email domain for spoofing protection (SPF, DKIM, DMARC and MTA-STS), so criminals can’t easily send email that looks like it came from you. Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace sign-in checks will appear there in a later update.

What does "Outdated software" mean on a device?

When you scan a device, PhylaxNet reads which software version its web page, remote login or camera stream reports, and compares it with versions that have published security holes. Update the device’s firmware from the maker’s website, or replace it if the maker no longer supports it.

How do I get alerts on my phone?

In the app, Settings → Phone Alerts shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone, sign in, and tap Turn on. On an iPhone, first tap Share → Add to Home Screen and open PhylaxNet from there. Then press Send a test alert in the app.

Can I put my logo on the insurance report?

Yes. Settings → Report Branding: add your logo, business name and colour. The Insurance report button on the dashboard then makes a PDF with your branding.

Account, billing & teams

How do I invite my IT person or a colleague?

Settings → Team on the website. Admins can manage devices and sites; Viewers can only look. They sign in with their own login and switch accounts from the sidebar.

I look after several businesses. Is there one view for all of them?

Yes — once you’re a member of more than one account, the Clients page lists every account with its devices, open alerts and whether its PC is online.

Can my accountant or insurer get a monthly report?

Settings → Reports on the website: turn on the monthly email and add up to five extra addresses. They receive a plain summary on the 1st of each month.

How do I cancel or change my card?

Settings → Your plan → Manage billing on the website. You can cancel, update your card and download invoices there. Monitoring keeps working until the end of the period you’ve paid for. If anything goes wrong, email support@phylaxnet.com.

How do I turn on two-factor sign-in?

Settings → Sign-in security on the website. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, 1Password…) and save your backup codes. After that, both the website and the desktop app ask for a code after your password.

I lost my phone and can’t get a code

Enter one of your backup codes instead of the 6-digit code — each works once. Then make new ones in Settings. If you have no backup codes left, email support@phylaxnet.com from your account’s email address.

How do I download or delete my data?

Settings → Your data. “Download my data” gives you a file with everything stored for your account. “Delete account” removes it permanently and cancels any subscription.

Troubleshooting

The app says "Set Up Monitoring" / no devices appear

Install Npcap from npcap.com (the app opens it for you) with the default options, then restart PhylaxNet. Make sure the PC is on the network you want to watch, not a guest WiFi.

The website says "Waiting for your agent"

Open the app on the PC and check Settings → Website Sync. It should say “Synced”. If it says “Sign-in needed”, sign out and in again.

My internet stopped working after turning on the Content Filter

The router is sending devices to this PC for DNS but the PC is off or the filter is stopped. Set the router’s DNS back to automatic, or turn the PC and filter back on.

Something else went wrong

Email support@phylaxnet.com with what you were doing and a screenshot. In the app, Diagnostics → “Agent debug info” shows details support may ask for.

Still stuck? Email support@phylaxnet.com — we usually answer within one business day.
